Last Tuesday night was a big night, as I learned that I had a significant lead in the election to pick the next Mayor of Encinitas. It was the end of a six month campaign and we had a gathering of friends and family at the Leucadian to watch the results come in and celebrate the work that went into getting to that point.
This was the sixth time I've had my name on a ballot asking for the voters of Encinitas for their support. It is a very humbling experience to have them place their faith in me with their vote. There are still ballots being counted so the official results are not known, but no matter what my margin of victory is, my gratitude for the opportunity to serve the community is immense.
I also greatly appreciate all of you who helped along the way with financial contributions, door knocking, sign waving or letting your friends know you support me. A campaign cannot be successful without enough people willing to do this important work.
Lastly, let me mention my partner in all this, my wife Cynthia. She has been an unwavering supporter and my best friend for 37+ years, and being married to someone involved in politics brings with it some special challenges. I love you for putting up with the many campaigns and late nights of meetings to get the job done.
There's a lot of work ahead but I'm looking forward to getting it started.
